Christian Lacroix
Born 1951, in the city of Arles, Christian Lacroix is one of the most inventive and admired fashion designers in the world.
He studied Art History in Montpelier before attending the Sorbonne in Paris where he enrolled on a museum studies course at the École du Louvre with the intention of becoming a museum curator.
Whilst his principal interest was in theatrical costume design opportunities led him to the heart of the Parisian fashion industry. He learned his craft in the design studio Hermès, Guy Paulin, Jun Ashida and Patou where in 1981 he became the artistic director.
In 1987 he opened the House of Lacroix creating both couture and ready-to-wear collections until 2007.
His interest and work in opera continues to this day. Occasionally he returns to the fashion fold, notably in 2019 to help infuse the Dries Van Noten SS2020 with some maximalism.
